Micro Devices (AMD) is the second-largest supplier of Microsoft Windows
compatible PC processors, and a leading supplier of non-volatile (flash)
memory.
Challenge
AMD
enlisted Origin to launch its K86 processor family, the first Pentium-class
microprocessor in the industry to seriously challenge Intel. AMD was launching
the family at the Microprocessor Forum and wanted to do an all-out blitz
with a wide array of marketing material, from custom-etched wine bottles
to direct mail and collateral.
Origin
had to tackle the dual challenge of rising above the noise of companies
clamoring for attention at the Forum and meet a six-week deadline from
concept to delivery. The goal was to create a theme and vision that was
both exciting and highly flexible for the number of design applications.
Strategies
Origin
created the theme "Unleash the Future" to illustrate AMDs
new technology and put customers and competitors on edge. For the artwork
and design, Origin created a precise large-scale physical model of AMDs
integrated circuit (IC) technology. Polished to brilliance, the sculpture
communicated AMDs technological flair.
Results
AMD
dominated the Microprocessor Forum with the launch of K86. AMD subsequently
chose Origin and the campaign for its flagship microprocessor division.
The theme and sculpture became the cornerstone for AMDs marketing
and collateral, including a highly-successful co-op advertising campaign
in Brazil, Central America and Mexico.
